Renee in the Big Apple!!

Renee is currently overseas, but this hasn’t stopped her from sharing with us some fantastic pics and tips from her first time in New York!…

“”Being my first time in the Big Apple and the United States, I accepted the mission to try as many American classics as possible to see how they measured up to giant expectations. I was also especially eager to compare the pizza and pasta dishes of the Italo-American cuisine with that of the “real thing.” Although most meals were laden with calories (There is no watching your weight here), to be honest I was quite pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and can assure you that everything really is grande.””

“*Note: There is no photo evidence of the hotdogs we ate at the Yankees game last Friday night ;).”

Photos of Food! (1-5):

  1. A traditional Margherita to share (just look at the size of that slice!), from Lombardi’s Pizzeria in Nolita. They claim to be the birthplace of pizza in New York, serving coal fired, thin crust pizza, similar in style of the Neapolitans. All washed down with a Peroni of course.
  2. The classic cheeseburger and crinkle cut fries at The Shake Shack in Madison Square Park. I drew the line at the shakes and frozen custard.
  3. Breakfast time at Dean & De Luca in Soho with a peanut butter and jelly doughnut.
  4. A quick pit stop to refuel after a full day of sight seeing, with the infamous banana pudding and red velvet cake from the Magnolia Bakery located in the Rockefeller Centre.
  5. Our “last supper” in NYC was a plate of gnocchi with porcini mushrooms and fontina cheese accompanied by a glass of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo from the restaurant Le Verdure at Eataly in the Flatiron district.
